Birds & Fish

Field Guide Birds and Fish

Handle gently, damaged feathers and missing scales are hard to repair.

Never gut this animal.

Keep cool and out of direct sunlight.

Keep birds as dry as possible.

Store birds in freezer bag, then freeze.

Freeze fish in damp towel/shirt, this will prevent freezer burn and damage to fins/tail.

Take lots of pictures and measure the fish length soon after catching. this is very helpful during the mounting process.

Fiberglass mounts:

All you need is the length and girth of the fish, tip of jaw to tip of tail, and the biggest place around the belly, in addition to lots of close up pictures of the fish.
